Residency Requirements Pertaining To The President

The constitution is not very clear about the residency requirements for the president. It does not say a person has to be a permanent resident of the Untied States for 14 years. The candidate for president must be a natural born citizen of the United States, reached the age of 35 and been a resident of the United States for a total of 14 years.

If the president and vice president become disabled, there is a long list of offices and current office holders who could become president, if they meet all of the requirements. These include the Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate. All of the candidates must meet the 14-year requirement.

If you are a natural born citizen of the United States and have lived here for at least 14 years, you should be able to run for president. The constitution should be more clear about the 14-year residency requirements.

The requirement have never been challenged so no one knows exactly what the residency means. All we know is that a candidate must be a natural born citizen of the United States.

There are several things on the internet about the requirements for president and vice president, also for Congress and other offices of the government. So go on the internet and you can find answers for just about anything you want to know. You can also find some interesting facts about the government.
